Your right about the factory finishes, they are nice, but you can duplicate a pretty nice finish also. The important part is the preparation and care, before painting or powder coating.
I've seen many , where the piant starts coming off due to poor preparation.. Just make sure the refinisher is a competent painter and tell him exactly what you are expecting and pay accordingly. Goodluck.
